“You and everyone you know are going to be dead soon. And in the short amount of time between here and there, you have a limited amount of fucks to give. Very few, in fact. And if you go around giving a fuck about everything and everyone without conscious thought or choice—well, then you’re going to get fucked.”
Okey, so for this book, I was a little bit in doubt on whether I should write a review about it or not. At first I’ve decided to read it because I’ve heard a lot of people talking about it, positively, creating a controversy in 2019, making me more and more curious to discover what’s special about it.
It’s a self-help guide, ad the main idea is to stop trying to be « positive » all the time, but instead learn how to live with all the negativity around us, define positive sides of it and, why not, make it a brighter good one after all.
For so many years, we’ve been taught brutally that the key for a happy, rich and healthy life is the positive thinking. As Mark Ranson says : « Let’s be honest, shit is f*cked and we have to live with it ». Manson also advised us to get to know more our limits, accept them, and live with them, without any remorse or regret. Once we embrace our fears, faults and uncertainties, once we stop running and star confronting truths, hard ones, we can find the courage, responsability and forgiveness we’ve been looking for ; and that is the key for happiness !
Manson also points out that since there are certain things we should care about, there are also others we shouldn’t even give a f*ck about them.
I’m giving this book a 3 stars rating. Why ? I really like the main idea. The style is very different, as you could tell from the title, the author doesn’t stop himself from using profanity, and I like it. It’s also a very funny book.
But I thought, based on people different opinions, that this book may be different comparing to
other self-help creations, which was the case in its starter, but then it turned up to be another « how to be happy » book, and somehow I felt like the author was repeating himself over and over again.
Mark Ranson released the second part, « Everything is f*cked up », but I still don’t know if I’m going to read it or not.
And you ? what’s your opinion about this self-help guide ?
