"Regretting you" by Colleen Hoover: Review:

“Sometimes you have to walk away from the fight in order to win it.”

After long days of convincing me to start diving into Co-Ho’s books (my sister is a big fan of hers), I decided to read her novel entitled “Regretting you” since it is an almost 4 and a half star rate in goodreads.

The story turns around 3 families, in whom two are related, and how they manage to solve the varied problems crossing their way. Our two main characters are Morgan, and her daughter Clara. They both undergo family issues, love problems, and spend the whole post-tragedy (you’ll know what I am talking about when reading the book, I don’t want to spoil :) ) fighting, spreading negative vibes and in some situations peddling hatred. With 2 different ages, 2 dissimilar mentalities, and 2 separate goals, at some point, co-existing between the two is nearly impossible.

What I liked the most about the story is how Collen Hoover highlights generations’ differences, the incomparable behaviours adopted in dealing with problems, and the totally different perspectives of life.

As stated earlier, Morgan is Clara’s mother, so she had experienced everything her daughter is going through now. She’s doing her best to prevent her from doing the same mistakes, giving her pieces of advice, forbidding her many things such as having sex with the boy she dates before turning 18 y.o, aiming on one main goal, which is protecting her, accomplishing her duty. But as you’ve surely guessed, Clara does all the things except what her mother advises her to do. She’s been stubborn and strong-headed, misunderstanding some situations and committing many mistakes.

Co-Ho organizes her novel alternating between Morgan chapters and Clara Chapters. To be honest, I was most excited about Clara’s ones, for the main reason that I have almost gone through a similar experience (not in all its aspects, but the main idea is there). That really motivated me to finish the novel in 3 days.

One information you should know about me which has a considerable impact when rating the novel , is that I was extremely addicted to fanfictions in Wattpad and love stories. Hearing my sister talking about Co-Ho’s novels, I was expecting something better (unreal maybe haha). The story remains for me as an original one, a commonly used one. This is why I am giving “Regretting you” 4 stars.

Contrariwise, if you haven’t read many love stories as I did, I highly recommend this one. You’ll feel sympathy, compassion, happiness…. You’ll experience mixed feelings without any doubt.

For the end, I was seeing it either as a happy one or a dramatic one. I almost had tears when I read it, which left me with a good appreciation on the whole story. Co-Ho successfully wrote the ending.

This won’t be my first and last book of this incredible author. My next read is “All Your Perfects” since many people recommended it to me.
