"Maybe someday" by Colleen Hoover: Review:

Booksymphony

“Sometimes in life, we need a few bad days in order to keep the good ones in perspective.”

Yes, I’m planning on reading every novel Co-ho has written. She’s one of my favorite authors and I can’t get enough of her stories and her writing style. So, after reading All your perfects, November 9, Ugly love and Hopeless, comes the time for Maybe someday.

The story is about Sydney, who was betrayed by her boyfriend and best friend. She found them cheating on her in her flat. Ridge, a talented musician, lives in front of her house. Witnessing the betrayals of Sydney’s boyfriend, he proposes to her to come live in his house, with his best friend and his roommate. I’ll stop right here, because everything that I will say may be considered as spoilers.

Colleen Hoover made me, one more time, ugly cry. I picked this book mainly because it featured music by Griffin Piterson, and OMG, the experience reading this romance and singing with music was so magical. The characters were so real. Sydney was that heartbroken girl who tried to get up, and when she found herself falling for Ridge, she didn’t give in to her feelings. And Ridge, I mean every girl would wish to have a Ridge in her life. He was so kind to Sydney, trying to help her forget her ex. Yes, he did start having feelings for her, but he didn’t give in as well. He loved his girlfriend and tried his best not to hurt her. And if you’re wondering, yes, they crossed some lines, but the way Colleen Hoover excuses it made me understand how feelings work. I’m not saying that cheating should be excused, but I’m not going to lie, I truly felt through these characters. The only thing that I wasn’t agreeing on is when Sydney started to develop feelings for Ridge, maybe she should have moved out? I mean you’re afraid of becoming like your best friend, but you’re not doing something to stop it. But I think the most important and beautiful thing in this novel was the connection between Sydney and Ridge through music. Reading about it, and most of all, singing and listening to the songs featured in this novel, was a funny and magical experience. And the lyrics to the songs! There is one in particular that I really loved: “For her I bend, for you I break” OMG the chills I got reading that part!

I highly highly recommend this one, and there’s a second book that I will definitely read.
