“The sky is always beautiful.Even when it's dark or rainy or cloudy,it's still beautiful to look at....it'll be there no matter what...and I know it'll always be beautiful.”
And another Co-Ho book? I think you should get used to it:p I’m not planning to stop reading her books, in the opposite, I want to read all of them :p she’s an amazing writer, so why stop myself from discovering her books ? My latest read was Hopeless, a book that took me a little time to finish it. Let’s first talk about the story.
Sky, a seventeen teenage girl, doesn’t feel anything towards guys. She invites them to her room, makes out with them without sleeping with them, just to see if she’s going to feel something. Well, she doesn’t, until the day she meets Holder, a handsome guy. Sky being immune to all the boys she met, she experiences for the first time butterflies in her stomach when she sees Holder at a grocery store. But when she was leaving to her car, Holder follows her and asks her for her name. She doesn’t respond, and yet Holder insists. When she finally tells him her name, he seems so frustrated, which makes Sky fear him. Later in the afternoon, she meets him again while she is running. He proposes to run with her. And while she was staring at him, she fainted, I mean she actually fainted (So sorry, couldn’t stop myself haha, any Drago fans here?). So he takes her to her home, and proposes to her mother that he will go with her everytime she wants to run, since he’s a runner too. Their relationship will grow of course, but Holder has a bad reputation, and through the pages we discover that he’s hiding a big secret from Sky. God it will be really hard not to spoil :p
Okay, I’m not totally sure if I liked or hated this novel, I mean, I have mixed feelings about this book. I’m not going to talk about Co-Ho’s writing because it’s good, as always, she has the ability to make you feel what the characters are experiencing. This novel treats a sensitive subject that I can’t tell you, or I will spoil you –‘. All I can say is that it’s so heartbreaking. I also loved Sky and Holder’s past, getting to know how they became the people they are today.
But, I’m not a big fan of Holder, and the relationship between him and sky. I mean he’s so creepy and violent. He didn’t treat Sky well in the beginning, he was upset because of a bracelet she was wearing, and after that he ghosted her. At the beginning he was stalking her. But what really upsets me was that Sky gave him excuses for his behaviour, ghosting, and stalking, because he was HANDSOME. Come on, like we have to forgive people in life, forgiveness can make us feel better, but we don’t forgive someone because he or she is handsome or beautiful! Even Holder didn’t apologise.
The storyline is good, the topic discussed in this novel is interesting, yet it’s not one of my favourite reads of Co-Ho. There’s a sequel to this novel, but I’m not sure if I’m going to read it.
